Tasty Recipes for Fall Produce

Tasty Recipes for Fall Produce

Fall is coming! Even though it doesn't technically start until the 23rd of this month, it's time to get ready for the change in seasons. That means jean jackets, scarves, Halloween and Fall Produce.

There are a couple reasons why you should buy produce in season. The fruits and vegetables will have stronger flavors and more nutrients for your body. That's because in season produce is much fresher than out of season alternatives. They don't have to be transported as far and spend less time stored in a fridge or truck. The next time you're at the farmer's market, look for what's in season. That means tomatoes, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, beets, figs, broccoli and pumpkins.

Apple Pie

After you buy your produce, you might be wondering what to do with all your fall fruits and vegetables. I'm going to share a few recipes that will highlight your in season goods. The first is a recipe for the American classic Apple Pie. I have never turned down a slice of apple pie and never will! Making the pie crust can be a little tricky if you've never done it before. Just remember to use cold water in the dough to make the crust flaky.

Sweet Potato Frites

The next item we're going to highlight is the sweet potato. These versatile potatoes have many health benefits. Just to name a few, they promote hydration, strengthen your immune system and improve digestion. If you pick up some sweet potatoes, try out this recipe for Baked Sweet Potato Frites. Using just 3 ingredients, this recipe makes for the perfect appetizer or snack.

Beet Salad with Tangerine Vinaigrette
My last recipe of the season features beets. These root vegetables are packed with vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. I prefer to eat them roasted and usually toss them in a salad. If you have some roasted beets on hand, check out the recipe for this Beet Salad with Tangerine Vinaigrette.
